Educational Technology Graphic

Once I had some free time to finally get started on this project, I pondered on what might make a sufficient representation of what the meaning of Educational Technology is, in graphic form. Then I thought to myself, “why does this have to be a static graphic?” So I decided to come up with some kind of “motion” graphic to encompass the meaning of Ed Tech. Then it dawned on me, the journey through this course has given us a glimpse of what Ed Tech is all about, so why not use that as a starting point.

While researching on what kind of graphic to do, I stumbled upon the famous “Marvel Comics” intro, and was able to find a free template from a generous artist on youtube. I then took screenshots of assignment imagery that was used throughout this class. With the help of Adobe Aftereffects and photoshop I was able to compile this fun little educational technology motion graphic. The graphic screenshots, encompass a piece from every single assignment we have worked on this semester. As the motion graphic comes to an end I added the definition of Educational Technology as the final conclusion.

Code of Professional Ethics in Educational Technology

Professional Ethics Paper

This project was a bear for me. After reading the different scenarios I was stumped on what kind of example to write about as I am not in a school setting, per-say. While reading the scenarios, the right and wrong was not always straight forward and evident. This example of ethics violation that I will be talking about is, in my professional opinion, very straight forward.

I went back and forth on ideas and scenarios but nothing really stuck. The problem as I had mentally stuck myself into trying to find an example within the Army. I found many, many good examples of ethics violations that I know of and have also experienced but none were tied to educational technology. Finally I decided to reach out to my youngest son’s preschool teacher and this is where I found an excellent example and scenario. I must also admit that I had no idea what The AECT Code of Professional Ethics entailed. I know we’ve been following it all along but I just hadn’t put enough attention to it. Now that I’ve read and researched about it, I have a whole new perspective and respect for teachers and those involved in the  teaching profession. As a parent, it also puts me at ease that the teachers who are with my two sons on almost a daily basis, are held to such a high standard.

RSS in education: U.S. Army

So after reading over this weeks assignment, I’m thinking to myself, what on earth am I going to do for a lesson plan? I mean, I’m not a teacher, so this is unknown terrain to me…or so I thought. After kicking around ideas for a couple days it dawned on me. OF COURSE! I am in the U.S. Army! In the Army, and I know the other branches as well, there is always something to be taught, something to learn. There are so many things that I can choose from in the Army to base a lesson plan on.

As most here already know, I am part of the public affairs team for 12th Combat Aviation Brigade. There are only two of us working as full-time public affairs Soldiers so it is impossible to be everywhere all of the time. Enter the U.S. Army Public Affairs Representative Program (UPAR). Yes, the Army and all military branches for that matter, like to make acronyms out of everything. It could be the easiest word in the world and the military will turn it into an acronym. =)

The purpose of a UPAR is to cover events that we are just not able to. They are Soldiers chosen, or more typically voluntold, by someone in their chain of command to take pictures and eventually write stories about what their unit is doing. Basically an extension of us. For example, if I have to go to South Germany next week for a mission and there’s also something going on in Spain, a UPAR will cover this.

With this in mind, I went ahead and set up a folder in my Digg Reader with feeds to basic journalism and photography websites. I have made a ScreenCast video, using QuickTime, on how to go about setting up a Digg account and start using it.

This new technology will be introduced as the first part of an established Lesson Plan for incoming UPAR Soldiers.

I know we have just started this class but this assignment was by far the most challenging for me. Fortunately I learned a LOT and look forward to using what I learned here, in the near future. =)
